Welcome to the Pursue You Podcast, where we are empowering you to continually reflect, design and pursue who you were created to be so you can give the gift of your best self to your family, community, and business!

On Episode 26 I discuss 5 Ways to Rock Your Morning Routine! I suggest you listen to Episode 24 “How To Rock Your Nighttime Routine” before listening to this! I have been practicing better sleep habits for some time now and have been prioritizing sleep. I never realized the impact not getting enough sleep was impacting my body. The way I was interacting with my husband and my kids.

[5:15] I discuss what a “sleep number” is, how to identify it and explain how my number is 8. I need 8 hours of sleep per night in order to show up how I want to each day for myself, my friends my family.

[7:00] #1 I explain how to identify your sleep number. Find 3 or 4 weeks where you can do a test run to determine the number of hours that work best for you. I explain how you cannot judge how tired you are feeling by how you feel when the alarm rings in the morning. The best indicator is how you feel at 3pm or at 5pm. Children are a great litmus test to tell you how you are feeling. Let someone in to help you determine this, a spouse or a friend!

[13:48] #2 Rock your evening routine! Listen to Episode 24.

[16:17] #3 Set a meaningful alarm! This one gas changed my world! Know when you need to fall asleep so that you can get your “sleep number” in. Then set that meaningful alarm. Your alarm means you have given your body what it means and it is time to wake up.

[20:19] #4 Wake up when you say you will! One way I am able to wake up when I say I am going to is “efficiency.” I want to maximize my time and energy. If I know I got my 8 hours in, I can tell my body I am not tired and it has everything it needs to get up!

How you start your day will flow into how you behave the res of the day. Keep that promise to yourself. It is a big deal to be doing that!

[24:47] #5 Make a plan you look forward to! This “plan” is what people are talking about when they discuss morning routines. I have tried them all! Find that something you look forward to. Maybe not the activity in and of itself, but the reward that comes from that activity. For me, in the spring/summer/fall, it is a run with fresh air and a podcast. Scheduling, planning and time blocking help with this, too.

I hope you use these 5 steps to create a customized-to-you plan! Set yourself up for success and start your day off right!
